Tap who won each rally. The tool keeps the score, the server and the side, and calls it the way the rulebook does.

The call

0-0-2

Team A 0 · Team B 0

Team A serves, server 2, from the right side. Team B receives, diagonally across the net.

How the call works
  • Doubles score is called as three numbers: serving team, receiving team, server number (1 or 2). (rule 6.B.2)
  • Singles score is called as two numbers: server, then receiver. (rule 6.B.1)
  • The team that serves first starts with one server only: the starting server counts as server 2. (rule 5.B, 5.B.2, 6.B.2)
  • The starting server is on the right when the team score is zero or even, on the left when odd; the partner is on the opposite side. (rule 5.B.3)
  • After a side out the player on the right (by the team score) serves first; on a lost rally the serve passes to the partner (server 2); when server 2 loses a rally, side out. (rule 5.B.2, 5.B.5, 5.B.6)
  • In singles the server serves from the right when their score is zero or even, from the left when odd. (rule 5.A.1)
  • Provisional rally scoring: every rally scores a point, the score is called as two numbers, one server per side. (rule 14.A.2–14.A.5)
  • Only the serving side scores: a point is won by serving and winning the rally. (rule 4.A)

Game over at the target score with a lead of at least two points (rule 15.C). Rally scoring is the provisional system in the rulebook; check that your event uses it.

Tap the button for the side that won each rally, and the caller shows the score call you should say before the next serve. It follows standard side-out scoring by default, tracks server 1 and server 2, and marks who serves from which side of the court.

How to use the score caller

Set the format first: doubles, singles or rally scoring, and a game to 11, 15 or 21. Then, after each rally, tap «serving side won» or «receiving side won». The call at the top changes, and the small court shows the four players with the server highlighted. Undo takes back a tap if you hit the wrong button.

A worked example in doubles: the game opens at 0-0-2. The serving team wins the first rally, so the call becomes 1-0-2 and the same player serves again from the left. The serving team then loses a rally. Because this was the opening turn, the serve passes straight to the other team, whose call is 0-1-1.

How the caller works

The tool applies the rules exactly as written in the 2026 USA Pickleball rulebook:

  • Only the serving side scores a point (rule 4.A).
  • The doubles call is three numbers, serving team first (rule 6.B.2); singles and rally scoring use two (rules 6.B.1, 14.A.3).
  • After a side out, the player standing on the right by the team score serves first (rule 5.B.2).
  • The first server keeps serving and switches sides after each point until the team loses a rally; then the partner serves, and a second lost rally is a side out (rules 5.B.5, 5.B.6).
  • The starting server of each team is on the right at an even or zero score and on the left at an odd score (rule 5.B.3).
  • A game ends at the target score with a lead of at least 2 points (Section 1, rule 15.C).

What the caller does not do

It does not judge faults, line calls or kitchen violations; it only counts the rallies you enter. It also does not track timeouts, end changes or tournament formats such as best 2 of 3. Some recreational groups use house rules; the caller follows the rulebook's win by 2.

If the call on court and the caller disagree, the rulebook lets any player ask the score before the serve (rule 6.E.1). A wrong call stopped before the return of serve is replayed with the right score (rule 6.F.1).

Next step

Read the doubles rules for stacking and positions, or the serving rules for what makes a legal volley serve and drop serve.

Questions

Why does a doubles game start at 0-0-2?

Only one player on the first serving team serves before the first side out. The rulebook treats that starting server as the second server for the opening turn (rule 5.B.2), so the call starts at zero-zero-two and the first lost rally gives the serve to the other team.

How do I know which side to serve from?

Look at your team's score. When it is zero or even, the player who started the game on your team is on the right; when it is odd, on the left (rule 5.B.3). After each point you win, the server switches sides with the partner.

Does the caller work for rally scoring?

Yes. Switch it to rally mode: every rally scores a point, the call has two numbers and each team has one server per turn (rules 14.A.2 to 14.A.5). Rally scoring is a provisional option and is not used at Golden Ticket events or the 2026 National Championships (rule 15.C.2).
